On the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region stand at Intertraffic there is a travel game in which you can try to virtually get from RAI Amsterdam to the world-famous Formula 1 racetrack at Zandvoort in the quickest, smartest way possible. The point is to highlight how different modes can help reduce congestion.
Along the way, you will have to answer questions on mobility and data – some of them are easy, some not so easy, but all of them come with three choices. Whoever gives the best answer will get there the quickest – and there are prizes for those who manage to get onto the podium.
“It’s a race between different modes of transport,” explains Anna Beerekamp from Metropolitan Region Amsterdam, who helped to develop the game. “In the game you can choose.”
She explains that it was inspired by real-life travel arrangements for last year’s Grand Prix at Zandvoort, when racegoers were encouraged to come by public transport or even bicycle. “We had the biggest temporary biking stall in Europe,” she says. “It was mainly closed off for cars but there was no issue with that. People were encouraged to leave their vehicle and rent a bike.”
The same arrangements will be in place for the Dutch Grand Prix in September 2022. “And I hope Verstappen wins again!” says Beerekamp. You might not be getting there at 200mph yourself, but go and try your luck in hall 2.
