A consortium led by Trafi is to deliver a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) app in the UK’s Solent region - which covers parts of the south coast of England - in a £2.4 million contract.
The deal – awarded by Solent Transport – is expected to make it easier to deliver new mobility services to 1.3 million people across the area, which includes Portsmouth, Southampton, South Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Solent Transport is aiming to maximise access to travel by unifying the various modes of transport available on the Unicard as well as the systems behind them.
The new app will include a journey planner, ticketing and payment system, smart card integration ticketing and some incentives for car drivers to switch to more sustainable modes of transportations via a carbon footprint calculation.
Trafi CEO Martynas Gudonavičius says: “Everybody who lives or travels through the Solent region will benefit from the variety of transport services being integrated, including ferry connections.”
As part of the collaboration, the Behavioural Insights Team will work with the Universities of Portsmouth and Southampton to help analyse data on travel patterns, with data collected throughout the project.
Trafi says this will enable the positive impacts of the new MaaS scheme to be quantified, and potentially applied to other regions.
