A series of challenges has been launched by Barcelona Innova Lab Mobility to find innovative, disruptive mobility solutions for Barcelona in Spain.

The urban mobility living lab of Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Institute of Technology for the Habitat, it is supported by Fira de Barcelona, which hosts the Smart Expo World Congress and Tomorrow.Mobility.

The first challenge - offering €200,000 in prizes -.is to reduce motorbike accidents in the Catalan city and to increase safety for other road users too.

The organiser wants entrants to look at two areas of innovation: technological - solutions that can be applied to spaces (public infrastructure), vehicles (motorcycles) or people (motorcyclists), or any combination of these; and behavioural - solutions to influence road user attitudes, incentivising good behaviour on the road and/or use of alternatives such as public transport or shared bikes.

Up to €100,000 is available for each of the two winning proposals, followed by 18 months for implementation and the chance to test the project in a real environment to achieve a measurable impact

There is also the possibility of a working space at Fira de Barcelona, plus the opportunity to present the solution at Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress (Barcelona, 7-9 November 2023).
