Lidar firm Innovusion is to integrate its sensors into D2 Traffic Technologies' traffic management solutions.
The partnership will see D2 being US distributor in the ITS market for intersection-based detection.
Lidar technology enables 3D sensing for autonomous vehicles and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), allowing detection of tracking of road users including pedestrians and cyclists.
The companies say they "plan to create unparalleled traffic management solutions capable of addressing the complex challenges faced by modern urban environments".
"We believe that Innovusion is the best-in-class in Lidar, specifically in the transportation industry. It brings a new dimension of vehicle, object and people detection," said D2 director of traffic Eric Gannaway.
David Samuel, sr. director of business development at Innovusion, says: "Through this partnership, we look forward to collaborating on new, innovative solutions to create more intelligent and efficient cities across the nation."
In a separate move, D2 has joined forces with real-time parking availability specialist Streetline, whose platform "powers infrastructure-less sensing, an Internet of Things portfolio, and a suite of management tools designed to support smart parking solutions".
