EnGoPlanet has installed 350 off-grid solar-powered LED streetlights in Doha, Qatar, as the Persian Gulf emirate prepares for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.
Qatar has emphasised its green credentials in the run-up to the football tournament, which begins this month - but it has faced criticism for its human rights record, and for the deaths of migrant workers involved in building infrastructure for the World Cup.
US-based EnGoPlanet deployed its EnGo Leaf model which has previously been installed in Nevada and Texas in the US and in Antigua and Barbuda.
"Without these alternatives our future would be bleak, and we are happy to contribute to building smart sustainable cities," said CEO Petar Mirovic.
"Demand for our products is growing, and we are planning to utilise newly adopted Inflation Reduction Act incentives to expand our manufacturing facilities in US."
As well as streetlights, EnGoPlanet makes smart solar furniture such as solar-powered benches and bus shelters.
